Jim Lawrence was the inception of a project that brought me little satisfaction, lots of headaches and took me on the longest and fastest journey I’ve ever taken. What follows is an unavoidably summarised chronicle of the five days that little adventure lasted.

I carry my camera with a fresh roll of film and a couple of extras. When we walked back up to the street, we were nearly in the barrio. Lawrence went up to a cop, explained our intentions, and asked if he thought it would be dangerous to walk. He advised against it.
