Community 360

A museum, by its very nature, is a place of care. It safeguards heritage, art and collective memory, and must ensure their transmission to future generations. This memory, which the MNAC preserves with great care, is not static or fossilised but very much alive. The works in the collection, together with the architecture of the building itself, can become a meeting point, a space for calm, reflection, enjoyment, escape or refuge: they morph through the gaze and experience of each visitor. Placing the human factor at the centre and projecting the Museum into its community is therefore essential in shaping the institution’s collective configuration for the future. The horizon is the new MNAC: the expansion of the Museum, due to open in 2029, which offers us the opportunity to rethink it and strengthen its role as a public service.

For years, the MNAC has been building bridges with communities in myriad ways: from on‑the‑ground work in the local area and the inclusion of new voices and groups that are underrepresented or overlooked, to arts and health projects and accessibility initiatives, not to mention museum‑school programmes. At the same time, we co‑create enriching and transformative experiences that shape the Museum as a sounding board of voices, a play of reflections and perspectives.

Community 360° is an initiative that works continuously across the panorama of the neighbourhoods surrounding the Museum within a 360‑degree radius, beginning with the 2024/2025 launch edition in Sants, La Marina and Poble‑sec, and exploring new areas in the coming years- In this first year we have sought to create a museum‑home, working on the connection between gastronomy and art through artistic techniques, shared dialogue around the Museum’s works, the collection as a space for play, knowledge passed from older to younger generations and vice versa, and the photographic memory of the neighbourhoods.
